J52 week 4 - Silhouettes

Really liked this prompt. One of my favourite silhouettes.

Doesn't everyone have their own Rock Island? 

Their own little patch of sand?
Where the slow waves crawl 

and your angels fall 

and you find you can hardly stand.
And just as you're drowning,

DLS week 2 - The beginning is always today

Week to of DLS has a quote by Mary Shelley, “The beginning is always today.”, combined with the art challenge gesso. I tried out different things on these pages. I used gesso to cover up previous darker colours, re-painted and re-gessoed a number of times. I made my own stencils and used them with red acryllic and gesso. I also added the cut out parts of the stencil. I just wrote down the quote and came up with carpe diem as the essence of starting today, every day. In addition to that I guess you have to start right here, right now... which is why I created the little arrow/sign. I'm not totally happy with the way it turned out but hey - this is part of the process of art journalling, I guess!

J52 week 2 - Just be!

I love the time and in between
the calm inside me
in the space where I can breathe
I believe there is a distance 

I have wandered...

I believe
this is heaven to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as I can be...

The second prompt of Journal 52 was "Just be!" - they focused a bit on being and doing or being what you do. My mind wandered in a different direction. Where and when am I calm and content with myself, simply happy just being? Losing myself in the moment... "Elsewhere" from Sarah McLachlan's album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (1993) holds a bit of that feeling for me. (Love that the lyrics have "in between" in it, too, of course.)
