Rudyard Kipling - The Jungle Book

This edition of The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling ist part of the Stirling Unabridged Classics series. All the books have wonderful illustrations and do their content justice - beautiful edition for book lovers...
Although familiar with Mowgli's story (not only because of Disney, but of course I saw the movie) I didn't know all the stories of The Jungle Book and was surprised by the variety of characters and topics. I am not so fond of the poems but I liked the story telling and the humour in some of the animals' dialogues.
Because of the underlying concepts of colonialism and racism which is to be expected because of Kipling growing up partly in India in the 19th century some aspects in the stories may cause discomfort. But there are also critical voices - animals wanting their freedom back or characters triumphing over their much stronger enemies - in the stories that can compensate for that.
It's a classic worth reading anyway!
