Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is one of the classics I had wanted to read for a long time. I know the story having watched at least one of the many movie adaptations. I came across the LibriVox audiobook which is read by Elizabeth Klett. It's more than 18 hours of Victorian prose that poured over me and I quite liked it. I won't deny that I might have missed more than one or two details of the somewhat detailed description of this and that and everything. But Jane Eyre is a female character to my liking. Although her beginnings are less than favourable she always tries to decide what's best for her and her personal development - as child, as a schoolgirl, as a dependent gouvernant and as a woman.

I can still remember my first encounter with Jane Eyre. It wasn't with the book, it was with the 1983 BBC miniseries starring Zelah Clarke and Timothy Dalton. My mom got it from the library when I was probably thirteen or fourteen, and we watched it together. I fell in love. With the story, with Jane, with Rochester, the whole shebang. I didn't read the book until I was a few years older, but when I did, it quickly rose to the ranks of my favorite books. A couple of years ago, I realized that it had at last eclipsed the book that had long held the #1 spot in my affections, and become my absolute favorite book.
